From BB Creams to CC Cushions: Why I Made The Switch

Clio VF21 CC Cushion

It was more or less one year ago when I first heard about CC cushions. I wasn’t an instant believer because I wasn’t a big fan of CC creams. I stuck to using BB creams because I have found some that actually worked quite well with my very oily, acne-prone skin.

I’m not saying I have tried them all as I tend to stay away from the pricier BB creams. I have tried Missha, Maybelline, Nature Republic, The Face Shop, Skin Food, and Holika Holika. Most of the BB creams I have tried gave my gave me a natural look upon application but gradually left a slight grayish cast after 3 to 5 hours. Yes, definitely dampens the mood especially when you want to look flawless. That, and the fact that I application can be quite messy.

My experience with using CC creams is limited. If I remember correctly, the first time I tried it, I was disappointed that I wasn’t getting the “color correction” thing everyone’s been raving about. I also didn’t like the fact that it provides less coverage than my BB creams.

And then I saw a YouTube video of a girl who can’t seem to stop about Clio VF21 CC Cushion. I’m not sure why I decided to shell out P800 ($18) because she recommended it but I’m glad I did. The CC cushion by Clio is just great for my oily skin. It provides medium coverage so each time I put it on, my blemishes aren’t that obvious. Plus, since it comes in a compact with a special sponge applicator, I can bring it with me wherever I go. I used to hate doing touch-ups because it’s a surefire way for me to getting cystic zits, but I swear I’ve done it countless times with the Clio CC Cushion but it didn’t irritate my skin at all. And lastly, ever since I’ve started using this wonderful product, I found out that I have no need for a face powder anymore. It settles in quite nicely and leaves my skin with a semi-matte finish, even when the weather’s not cooperating.  And did I mention it’s SPF50+, PA++++?

Clio CC Cushion Cream review

This product is far from perfect.  It is not without disadvantages. If I’m going to nitpick, I’d say it’s a tad expensive for makeup item that’s good for a few months of use (I’ve been using mine for about 3x/week for the past 6 months).  And unlike other brands, the package doesn’t come with a refill so this may be a dealbreaker for some. That’s all I can come up with.

Right now, I am ready to move on to other CC cushion brands and I have set my sights on the A’pieu CC Cushion (Garfield Edition) because it’s super cute and really affordable.
