I have been wanting to try out e.l.f cosmetics ever since I read a ton of reviews about it. Consumers believe that most of their products deliver and of course, the price tag is really, really affordable.
So during a trip to Manila, I made sure I dropped by Watson’s to purchase a couple of e.l.f. cosmetic items (Watson’s do have branches here in Davao City but they don’t carry the brand). I didn’t have anything in mind so I just decided to buy something I could use almost everyday.
When I surveyed the display shelf, I saw the e.l.f Get The Look Smokey Eyes kit. I looked for the price tag before I inspected the box contents. The whole kit costs Php399. The kit included a lash curler, a black pencil eyeliner, a mascara, a quad eyeshadow, and a sponged-tipped smudge brush. Not bad, I thought.
But before making the purchase, I had to ask myself this question: Do I really need the kit contents?
Mascara? Yes! I needed a new tube of mascara since my Maybelline tube’s dried out.
Black pencil eyeliner? Sorta. I only have a blue, brown, and green pencil eyeliner. My gel eyeliner doesn’t fit in the category.
Eyelash Curler? Absolutely! I threw away my Trikeel lash curler because I was too lazy to replace the pads.
Quad Eyeshadow? Hmmm…not really into the smokey eyes look but I guess it’ll be useful someday.
Sponged-tip smudger brush? Of course! I don’t own a smudge brush.
And so I went ahead and purchased the e.l.f. Smokey Eyes kit along with another quad eyeshadow and a tube of plumping lip glaze.
So what are my thoughts on the e.l.f. Get The Look Smokey Eyes kit ? I have tried using the items in the kit and I say I am pretty much satisfied with everything as I got 3 make-up items and 2 beauty tools for less than Php400. I don’t think you can find a decent kit for that price elsewhere.
My favorite item in the kit is the mechanical eyelash curler. The eyelash curler is very durable– I have been using it everyday and the handles stay in place. And of course, it does curl the lashes quite nicely. It’s just too bad the kit didn’t come with refill pads.
As for the e.l.f. Lengthening & Defining mascara, I haven’t observed any lengthening effects but I say it is a good product because it doesn’t clump when applied. One or two coats are enough to define the eyes and it does separate my eyelashes quite nicely when applied.
If you go for the intense smokey eyes look, then you’ll love the e.l.f. Brightening Eyeshadow in Drama. I tried using it twice and the colors are vibrant, blends smoothly, and are highly-pigmented. However, I noticed that since I have very oily skin, the colors tend crease and wear off after a few hours. I believe this is where a good eyeshadow primer comes in.
The e.l.f. Brightening Eyeliner in black is a nice enough eyeliner. It glides on smoothly so there is no danger of tugging the skin. However, it tends to run especially when applied on the waterline so you might need to re-apply after a few hours. It also comes in a very intense black so if you are looking for black eyeliner for a more natural look, this one is not for you.
The e.l.f Smudge Eye Sponge that came with the e.l.f. smokey eyes kit is intended to create a dramatic look by blending eyeliner and eyeshadow. It is easy to use and and the tapered end makes it great for smudging eyeliner before it sets. It is also great for applying cream eyeshadow. The only negative thing I can say about the e.l.f smudge eye sponge is that the tip tends to fall off so you have to re-insert and glue it right back in to fix the problem.
All in all, the e.l.f. Get The Look Smokey Eyes kit is a good product. It’s a value-for-money starter kit, especially for beginners like me who do not want to hurt their budget on a few cosmetic items.

Whoa! I need all of those except the eyeliner kasi mas liliit ang mata ko.
Will try to trick my cousin to buy that for me.
They have other Get The Look kits. I got this one because it’s the only one available that time.
I hope your cousin brings with her lots of e.l.f. makeup and tools. I wanna buy!
I’m not crazy about E.L.F. products…I don’t think it’s good..I’m just saying my opinion sweetie. Why don’t you try the Cover Girl smokey look dual eyeshadow pencils—they’re way better, and more lasting. Or by Revlon—their eyeshadows are intensely pigmented for smokey -look eyes.
Or try Benefit….this one I really love.
I wish I’ll be able to try all the brands that you mentioned. But Revlon and Cover Girl are quite pricey here and I am on a budget. And the last time I checked, they don’t sell Benefit here in Davao City.
