Finding the Right Dress for the Right Setting

Dress codes and appropriate attire are tricky things to interpret, and can easily go right or wrong. Many women struggle with the question of “what’s the right dress to wear?” regardless of whether they’re heading to an interview, a wedding or a casual affair. But until designers create a “one-dress-for-all-events” style, finding the right dress can be quite a struggle. However, this handy guide can give you ideas on what type of dress to wear for your next big event:

Weddings

Finding the right type of dress for a wedding can be a challenge, especially if the invitation does not specify a dress code. One major don’t is to wear a white dress – you want to avoid competing with the bride and taking away from her momentous day. Another tip to keep in mind is the time of the occasion. If the wedding takes place in the daytime, then a simple floral dress or pastel colors will do the trick. But if you’re heading to an evening reception, then a cocktail or little black dress will fit almost anywhere. As long as your dress stays feminine and tasteful, then chances are you’ll fit in with the crowd. Continue reading Finding the Right Dress for the Right Setting

Ukay-Ukay Find: My P220 Workbag

It has been a while since I blogged about the  stuff I bought from the ukay-ukay.  My latest ukay-ukay blog post was on that fabulous David & Scotti leather messenger bag and that was July last year.  Yes, it was that long ago!

I haven’t been to my ukay-ukay haunts this year.  It doesn’t mean that my passion for finding priceless treasures at the ukay-ukay has waned. I haven’t blogged about my most recent purchases yet so I haven’t earned the right to visit my favorite ukay stalls and spend money on a bag or two.

If the name brings to the mind the decorative traditions of the women of colour who were brought to the southern United States during the slave trade, the latest interpretation is pure freedom. Colored stones, symbolic pendants and multiple spheres. And the evolution goes on.

Ukay-Ukay Find: David & Scotti Leather Messenger Bag

Finally, another ukay-ukay post!

My first and last update on ukay-ukay was October 2010.  I scored a number of bags from the top ukay-ukay destinations here in Davao City over the last few months so busy or not, I have to start blogging about my purchases.

Ukay-Ukay Bags - Leather Messenger Bag
David & Scotti People in Motion Leather Messenger Bag, PhP280

Most of my  ukay-ukay bag finds are medium-sized or oversized. I like my bags sturdy and roomy enough to hold some of my gadgets (iPod Touch, digital camera, netbook, phone, etc.) so I’m always drawn to leather messenger bags, multi-pocketed convertible bags, cross-overs, day backpacks and slouchy shoppers’ bags.
