From BB Creams to CC Cushions: Why I Made The Switch

Clio VF21 CC Cushion

It was more or less one year ago when I first heard about CC cushions. I wasn’t an instant believer because I wasn’t a big fan of CC creams. I stuck to using BB creams because I have found some that actually worked quite well with my very oily, acne-prone skin.

I’m not saying I have tried them all as I tend to stay away from the pricier BB creams. I have tried Missha, Maybelline, Nature Republic, The Face Shop, Skin Food, and Holika Holika. Most of the BB creams I have tried gave my gave me a natural look upon application but gradually left a slight grayish cast after 3 to 5 hours. Yes, definitely dampens the mood especially when you want to look flawless. That, and the fact that I application can be quite messy.

On Blushes and Bronzers

I cleaned my vanity tray earlier and also checked every single one of my makeup items for signs of spoilage or contamination. Fortunately, everything’s in tip-top shape so there was no need for me toss anything into the trashbin.

2.  NYX blush (sand)

3. Victoria’s Secret BeachSexy Luminous bronzer

4. The Face Shop Lovely ME:EX (orange)

While doing the dusting and the wiping, I was mentally counting how many items I have. And I’m proud to say that I’m down to…..26! The small figure is expected since I try to limit my purchases to what I really need hence the single tube of mascara, a compact, a tube of BB cream, the 3 tubes of lipstick…

Wise Buys: Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer + Avon SuperExtend Mascara

2013 is yet another year of wise buys for me.  I think it was last year when I decided  to limit my makeup purchases to what I really need  (or was it in 2011?).  I’m not a makeup junkie anyway so not having a big makeup collection doesn’t really bother me at all. Nor do I envy those who have an cosmetic armoire filled with rows and rows of expensive products.

But there’s always a right time for a girl to add a few items to her makeup stash.

Early this year, I discarded my Maybelline mascara because I’ve been using it for more than 3 months.  It was my one and only mascara so I was  lucky when an Avon dealer offered to sell me the Avon SuperExtend Mascara (black)  for only P200.  And I’m glad I bought it as it’s great at lengthening my eyelashes.  Think Lancome Definicils kind of lengthening.   However, this mascara isn’t perfect because it is not the quick-dry type and has the tendency to clump if you apply too many coats.

NYX Cosmetics

I recently found out that Chimes- Abreeza now sells NYX Cosmetics so I purchased a handful of   items.  I normally don’t buy more than a couple of makeup items at a time because I’m not a makeup addict.   However,  I just discarded at least a third of my stash so I had  enough reason to spend a little more on cosmetics.

  Here’s what I got:

  • NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone (P325) –>smoothens lids prior to eyeshadow application; does nothing about the creasing, though.
  • NYX Nude on Nude Natural Look Kit (P599) –> pretty colors, convenient for every day use, size is perfect for my kikay kit
  • NYX Megashine Lip Gloss in Frosted Walnut, Copper Penny, and Beige (P250/each)–>  creamy, glossy, long wearing
  • NYX Round Lipstick in Strawberry Milk (???) –> this is perfect for those with light skin tones (pls. don’t ask me why I bought it)

Makeup 101 by Mae Ann Cortez

One of the perks of being one of the few beauty bloggers in Davao City is that you get invited to product launches and makeup workshops.

I have attended a total of 3 makeup workshops ever since I started Get Prettified! and  although the sessions took me away from my work area for hours on end, it was time well spent.  I learned a lot and had the opportunity to receive valuable tips and instruction from creative minds.
